FRENCH VISITORS SET NEW RECORDS !
On an eight day visit a group of seven french pilots, flying every single day, set several new Dominican records including Altitude Record with 3,280 mts. ASL and a 69 km Out-and-Back XC flight !
The group was formed by:
- Gérald Delorme: Who doesn't know him?
- Pierre Naville, known as "Nash": Owner of paragliding school "les Passagers du Vent"
- Pierre: Swiss paraglider pilot living in Versoix, Genève.
- Christophe: Air France pilot, lives in Annecy.
- Maxime: Parisian, but often in Ayn, Aiguebelette.
- Seb & Tanya: Mars & Venus.
In addition to the records mentioned, they also set new records for several flying sites, including a 52 km XC flight from Galvan up to Haiti, and several XC flights from Las Aguitas and Azua (over 40 km).
You can see some of the photos they shot in our Visitors' Paragliding Gallery. You can also see our updated free flying map in the Flying Sites page.
The 69 km Out-and-Back XC flight was made by Maxim along the southern face of the Central Range from the site called Las Aguitas. That's the same site where Christophe climbed almost 2200 mts to reach cloudbase at 3,280 mts. ASL, setting the new Altitude Record (the old one was 2,700 ASL, in Azua).

OPEN DISTANCE RECORD BROKEN !
Dominican Republic's Open Distance XC Paragliding record has just been broken by the visiting paragliding pilot Claude Montpetit (Quebec). The old record had been achieved in Azua by Simon Vacher (French) in July 2000 flying 56 km along the southern Central Range. Claude Montpetit managed to fly 60 km, also from Azua, but taking a different route, making an interesting combination of mountain and plains flight. Our congratulations go to Claude Montpetit, who took full advantage of a great flying day !
Check out our flying sites page. You should also check the new Azua Panorama in the Paragliding Photo Gallery page !
